Our speciality is making big history topics accessible and dramatic, and that means powerful music is essential. And we need lots of it. Our typical running time is 25 minutes, which usually means a dozen or more music cues, ranging from hardcore action to poignant reflection.

As an experienced TV producer, I was used to having access to production libraries and commissioned music – but, as an independently funded side project, none of that was affordable for Epic History. Initially, it was a real struggle to find good, licensable tracks. Then by a happy coincidence, I was put in touch with Seb from Filmstro, and it transformed how I score our videos.

Not only do we now have access to a substantial body of first-rate music scores, at an affordable price, the customisation options are unique, and invaluable. Filmstro’s slide controls allow us to reflect the pace of action, signpost tension and turning points, and get massive ‘replayability’ from our favourite scores, because effectively, every mix we create is unique.

Our dramatic music scores have begun one of the channel’s most talked about features, to the extent that we now release some of them as a special bonus feature to our Patreon supporters.

The recent addition of stem controls, variable lengths and the very welcome return of the Premiere plugin means Filmstro has never been so easy to use or flexible. It will certainly continue to be our first port of call for music for the foreseeable future.
